Baghdad, The National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji, received in his office this evening, Tuesday, the British Minister of State for Middle East and South Asian Affairs and the United Nations, Lord Tariq Ahmed, in the presence of the British Ambassador to Baghdad, Mark Bryson Richardson.

The meeting witnessed, according to a statement by the Chancellery, a review of the relations of cooperation and friendship between the two countries, and ways to enhance them, in a way that serves the common interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.

They discussed files and issues of common concern, especially the Syrian Al-Hawl camp file and the importance of helping the international community to dismantle the camp, end this important and sensitive file, and the countries repatriate their nationals from the camp.

Al-Araji stressed: “Iraq considers the United Kingdom a partner in confronting terrorism, and cooperation, partnership and support must continue in the field of combating terrorism, in order to achieve stability in the region.”

He pointed out: “Iraq is located in a very important region, and that the Iraqi government is working hard to create a balance in relations and common interests with countries,” noting: “There are various challenges, and that Al-Sudani government is working according to the principle of dialogue and diplomacy, to resolve differences in the region and the world.”

The National Security Adviser stressed the need to work for calm in the region, stressing: “Iraq is capable of playing this role, and the region cannot proceed with progress and sustain development without a stable Iraq.”

For his part, Lord Tariq Ahmed affirmed that his country will continue to cooperate with Iraq and support it in the fields of cybersecurity, communications and exchange of experiences.
