Extremist colonists destroy Palestinian-owned agricultural shed near Nablus

NABLUS: Israeli colonists destroyed tonight a Palestinian-owned agricultural shed in the town of Qasra, south of Nablus, in the northern occupied West Bank, according to a local source.

Fo’ad Hasan, a local Palestinian activist, told WAFA that colonists destroyed an agricultural shed southeast of the town of Qasra after they were confronted and prevented by the town’s residents from attacking the homes.

KAFD, CPF Renew Collaboration to Empower Youth

Amman: Mazen Tablat, Director of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD), and Tamam Mango, Executive Director of the Crown Prince Foundation (CPF), renewed their commitment on Tuesday by signing a memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation and streamline communication between the two organizations, facilitating joint initiatives and projects.

This memorandum marks the beginning of a collaborative effort to engage with local communities and introduce the various programs and projects offered by both institutions, particularly targeting young people.

Tablat emphasized the significance of sustaining this partnership, highlighting the progress made thus far in fostering active citizenship among Jordanian youth and integrating them into public life. He praised the Foundation as a valuable ally in nurturing youth potential, providing avenues for empowerment, and cultivating entrepreneurial spirit among them.

Mango echoed Tablat’s sentiments, underlining the importance of synergizing efforts with
national institutions to maximize the developmental impact on young individuals across all regions.

She underlined the coordinated approach through the Foundation’s regional offices, ensuring broad access to programs and projects aimed at bolstering youth leadership, social engagement, and economic participation.

The memorandum outlines plans for collaboration between the Crown Prince Foundation’s regional offices and the coordinators of the “We Are All Jordan” Youth Authority in all governorates. It includes joint efforts in selecting candidates for various programs such as the Hussein Fellowship Program and the TechWorks program, as well as supporting initiatives like learning through travel and fostering research and creativity for university students.

Additionally, the agreement emphasizes leveraging the Fund’s mobile gaming laboratory services to introduce young people to the electronic gaming industry. It also entails promoting volunteer and training opportunities through the “Nahno” platform, along
with publicizing specific openings on social media channels. Moreover, it includes hosting trainees from the “Darb” project during their practical training phase in the Fund’s offices across the Kingdom.

Mohammed bin Rashid honours winners of 6th Edge of Government Award

DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, today honoured the teams behind Trkiye’s RoboRoyale ecosystem support project and Spain’s Life Work Balance project as winners of the 6th Edge of Government Award.

A total of 13 global innovations were showcased via the Edge of Government platform, overseen by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, during the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024.

The two winning projects triumphed over 11 other innovations that were shortlisted and showcased on the Edge of Government platform, which saw submissions from Canada, Guatemala, China, USA, Kenya, UK, Finland, Spain, Australia, India, France, Rwanda and Trkiye.

Combining micro-robotics and artificial intelligence to observe and understand the interactions of the queen bee with the rest of the hive, RoboRoyale is an AI-based multi-robot system that aims to support and imitate the bees that are in charge of feeding, grooming, and cleaning
of the queen with small robotic surrogates, as well as the facilitation of regulatory information transfer from the queen to the workers. A thriving honeybee pollution will result in increased pollination, supporting the surrounding ecosystem, plant growth and animals.

Barcelona led unprecedented efforts to develop time use and time tracking policies, amidst a growing acknowledgement of time as both a necessary commodity and a human right. Launching the first national time use law, the Life Work Balance project, Barcelona was one of the first European cities to include time-use in the city’s policy agenda, inspiring over 75 other cities globally, including Strasbourg, France; Milan, Italy; and, Montevideo, Uruguay, which are part of the World Regional and Local Governments Time Network.

The Award aims to recognise government innovations from around the world, offering a great opportunity for knowledge sharing and a preview of innovative, future-ready tools.

A total of 11 other projects, alongside the two winners, were shortlisted for the Edge of Government Award, covering three main themes: Alternative Intelligence, River Time and the Bureau of Standards.

A distinguished and independent judging panel comprising well-known innovation experts from leading international organisations and the private sector assessed the shortlisted projects based on three main criteria: novelty, replicability and impact.

Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah receives Austrian delegation

SHARJAH: In its pursuit to promote the global reach of the Arabic language, the Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Sharjah received an academic and student delegation led by Dr. Philip Hammerberg, President of the Hammer-Purgstall Foundation in Austria.

The delegation, comprising 15 Austrian students and four experts in Arabic language and Middle Eastern studies, embarked on a ten-day educational and cultural visit.

Dr. Mohamed Safi Al Mosteghanemi, Secretary-General of ALA, along with several members of the academic and administrative team, extended their welcome.

Discussing the visit to Sharjah, Dr. Al Mosteghanemi emphasised the ongoing collaboration between ALA and the Austrian Hammer-Purgstall Foundation since the initiation of the First Sharjah Conference on Arabic Language Studies in Europe at the end of the previous year. This conference delved into the status of the Arabic language in Europe and its role in cultural communication between the East and the West.

The Academy has evolved into a preferr
ed destination for Arabic language learners and international academic institutions, offering opportunities to study Arabic linguistics, and benefit from its diverse programmes and activities. Additionally, it serves as a gateway to explore Emirati culture and civilisation and visit prominent tourist and historical landmarks in Sharjah.

The visit stands as a testament to the ongoing scientific and cultural collaboration between the Academy and the Austrian foundation, fostering a supportive environment for students not proficient in the Arabic language. This initiative facilitates language skill enhancement through both academic interactions with professors during educational sessions and cultural and recreational experiences with Arabic-speaking companions during the guided tours included in the visit programme.

Commencing their programme, the Austrian student delegation visited the Arabic Language Academy, exploring its library and cutting-edge scientific facilities. They acquainted themselves with classr
ooms equipped with state-of-the-art educational tools and resources, gaining insights into the Academy’s dedicated efforts in producing the historical dictionary of the Arabic language. Subsequently, the delegation toured the “Holy Quran Academy”, exploring its seven museums and the Islamic Research and Studies Centre it hosts. The visit provided them with a glimpse of rare manuscripts, concluding with a visit to the “Noor Mosque.”

The visiting delegation commended the academy’s efforts to preserve the Arabic language, make it accessible to non-Arabic speakers, and promote its cultural and historical aspects. They expressed their eagerness to continue collaborating with the academy, envisioning an expansion of programmes and activities focused on teaching Arabic and familiarising the global community with its rich heritage.

Israeli colonists attack Palestinian family in Bethlehem

BETHEHEM: Israeli colonists today attacked a Palestinian family in the village of Kisan, east of Bethlehem, and seized several sheep, a vehicle, and an agricultural tractor.

The head of the Kisan Village Council, Musa Abayat, said that a group of colonists from the illegal colony of Maale Amos, built on stolen Palestinian land near the village, attacked a house owned by local resident Ibrahim Sawarka and seized around 40 of sheep, a vehicle, and an agricultural tractor.

Abayat added that the occupation forces had detained Sawarka in the morning hours after raiding his house.

The occupation soldiers yesterday evening assaulted Sawarka’s wife and left her with bruises.

Sawarka’s wife is currently in the hospital after being injured as a result of the colonists’ assault on her, noting that his children are still trapped in the house.
