UAE President and Indian Prime Minister witness exchange of MoUs

AHMEDABAD: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Indian Prime Minister His Excellency Narendra Modi today witnessed the exchange of a number of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at further enhancing collaboration between the two nations.

The exchange took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat during His Highness’ working visit to India.

The agreements included:

Memorandum of understanding for investment cooperation in the development of food complexes.

Memorandum of understanding for investment cooperation in renewable energy.

Memorandum of understanding for investment cooperation in innovative healthcare.

Memorandum of understanding on establishing sustainable, green and efficient ports.

From the UAE side, the MOUs were exchanged by Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi, Minister of Investment; and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World. Representing India at the exchange were Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs; Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of
Health and Family Welfare; Pashupati Kumar Paras, Minister of Food Processing Industries; and Rajkumar Beniwal, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Indian Administrative Service.

The exchange ceremony was witnessed by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor for Special Affairs at the Presidential Court; Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for National Security; Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President; Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimi, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade; along with a number of other officials from both sides.

Israeli colonists set up caravan on Palestinian land in Masafer Yatta, a prelude for takeover

HEBRON: Israeli Colonists set up this evening a mobile home on Palestinian land in the a-Rakeez area, in Masafer Yatta to the south of Hebron, according to local sources.

Sources said that several colonists erected a caravan on land belonging to three families in the said area, a step that residents warned was a prelude to taking over more land for the expansion of the nearby illegal colony of Avigal.

Colonists attack the said village regularly; including chasing after Palestinian farmers and herders and the seizure of more land after forcing their owners out.

Magnitude 6.7 quake jolts Philippines

MANILA: A magnitude 6.7 earthquake shook Davao Occidental, Philippines, and nearby areas Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to the Philippine News Agency (PNA), the tectonic quake’s epicentre was traced offshore Davao Occidental at 183 kilometres southeast of Balut Island, Sarangani at 4:48 am. It was 94 km deep.

No tsunami alert threat was raised, Phivolcs said.

Queen Rania meets local youth, women in Wadi Musa to talk tourism

Petra: Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah Tuesday visited the Wadi Musa town Ma’an and met the founders and beneficiaries of local economic empowerment programmes and a group of youth spearheading local initiatives.

According to a statement from the Queen’s office, Queen Rania met with Yousef Falahat, the founder of Thakafat, which creates financial empowerment opportunities for community members by connecting them with tourists seeking an “authentic” Jordanian experience.

Thakafat’s projects, the majority of which are women-led, allow tourists to learn more about the area and its people by partaking in experiences including cooking, craft making and spending time with locals.

A member of Thakafat’s team, Anmar Jbour, told the Queen about the inspiration behind the initiative and shared their plans to operate in As-Salt and Madaba. Others shared details about how they launched their initiatives.

Her Majesty then stopped by Esraa Kitchen, a Thakafat project that introduces tourists to Jordanian cuisine by
allowing them to sample local food and participate in its preparation.

The kitchen, which provides part-time work opportunities to local women, has welcomed over 4,200 visitors from 32 countries to date.

Queen Rania visited the Nabataean Ladies Cooperative in Wadi Musa, where board members and president Fawziyeh Hasanat gave the Queen a tour of the showroom and silver jewellery-making workshop.

Established in 1999, the cooperative aims to revive the art of Bedouin silver making, provide a “unique” tourist experience and offer jobs for local women.

The cooperative had previously received a financial grant from a programme run by the Jordan River Foundation (JRF) and funded by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.

The grant supported the cooperative in purchasing machinery and raw materials required for making silver jewellery and helped train 26 people in the craft.

The Queen visited Abu Elias Restaurant, which serves traditional Jordanian dishes, to meet with youth from across Ma’an wo
rking on creating and expanding their community empowerment projects.

Their initiatives range from projects in the arts, environmental awareness, translation and typing, chocolate making and moulding to volunteer work with families in need, including delivering assistance packages and housing renovations.

JIEC signs two agreements to build new facilities in Al Muwaqar Industrial Estate

Amman: Jordan Industrial Estate Company (JIEC) on Tuesday signed two agreements to build new industrial facilities in Al Muwaqar Industrial Estate ( MIE) to meet the growing demand for investment.

According to its statement, JIEC Direcctor General, Omar Jeweid, who signed the agreement, said the area of the new buildings stands at 11,000 square meters at a cost of JD2 million and comes within the company’s plan to meet the investment demand.

Jeweid noted that JIEC has recently begun constructing new facilities in the industrial estates in the central governorates of Salt and Madaba.

To date, he announced Al Muwaqar Industrial Estate hosts 93 companies with an investment volume of about JD635 million, providing 4,698 job opportunities.

In 2023, JIEC completed the second expansion project in Al Muwaqar Industrial Estate on an area of 305 dunums, announcing door for investment in the development area.

Today’s agreements were signed with Detailed Solutions for Contracting (DSC) and Wahib Madanat Consultant E
ngineers.
