The Dow Jones Industrial Average surrendered a 400-point gain Thursday but managed to end the session in positive territory. The blue-chip index was up 75 points, or 0.23%, to finish the day at 32,105. The S and P 500 rose 11 points, or 0.3%, to 3,948. The tech-heavy Nasdaq increased 117 points, or 1%, to 11,787. The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 1.6% to 22.61, while the 10-year US Treasury yield fell 2.5% to 3.414%. The dollar index rose 0.25% to 102.60, while the euro added 0.03% to $1.0833 against the greenback. Precious metals were in positive territory as gold increased 1.2% to $1,994 per ounce and silver gained 0.5% to $23.11 Oil prices, on the other hand declined, with global benchmark Brent crude at $75.45 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $69.47.
