Jakarta, SANA- Indonesian President Joko Widodo has affirmed his country’s keenness to strengthen relations with Syria, expressing hope that it would recover from the effects of the devastating earthquake.

The Indonesian President’s remarks came while accepting the credentials of the new Syrian ambassador to Indonesia, Abdel Moneim Annan, at the presidential palace in the capital, Jakarta.

“We are keen and interested in the cooperation to enhance the best relations with Syria, and we hope that it will recover from the effects of the devastating earthquake in the near future,” Widodo said.

In turn, Ambassador Annan affirmed Syria’s keenness to strengthen and develop bilateral relations in all fields, wishing Indonesia more progress and prosperity.

Ambassador Annan expressed the thanks of the political leadership in Syria to President Widodo for the aid that Indonesia provided and will provide to the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Syria.
