Amman – Nizar Mhaidat, Director General of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), has outlined the institution’s significant achievements in the registration of medicines and pharmaceutical products.

According to Jordan News Agency, the JFDA registered a total of 8,524 medicines and pharmaceutical products, including both locally manufactured and imported items. In a briefing to Petra, Mhaidat detailed the registered drug types for the first half of the year, which included 23 local medicines, 54 imported brands, 112 vitamins and minerals, 68 natural medicines, and 6 baby formula and infant food products. The Medicines Directorate registered 409 pharmaceutical products, including new and similar types, serums, vaccines, and natural medicines.

Mhaidat also addressed the JFDA’s role in reviewing drug prices, a practice aimed at ensuring reasonable prices and reducing the cost of generic drugs. He compared prices with those in neighboring countries and the countries of origin while adjusting the pricing mechanism. This review resulted in the reduction of prices for 516 pharmaceutical items during the first nine months of the year, as well as pricing for registration and re-registration purposes.

The total value of local pharmaceutical products authorized for trade by the JFDA amounted to about JD664.6 million, split between locally made and imported products.
