BRUSSELS, Following the recent upsurge in violence between in the Middle East, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) Tuesday stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire to avoid further civilian casualties.
In a debate with Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs Augusto Santos Silva in the European Parliament on the situation in Palestine this afternoon, MEPs expressed their extreme concern over the renewed escalation of violence and called for an immediate end to the fighting, said an EP press released.
They also underlined the need for dialogue and for negotiations on a two-state solution to resume, it added.
Portugal holds the current EU Presidency.
