The Sultanate of Oman bagged one of the awards of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2023, held in Geneva. This comes as a result of the artificial intelligence (AI) laboratory at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Sohar being chosen among 72 winning projects out of 900 submitted from different world countries.

The award was received by Idris Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations (UN) and International Organizations in Geneva.

The laboratory was established in cooperation with Sohar Port and Freezone in a bid to strengthen partnership between the public and private sectors. The establishment of the laboratory also comes in line with development goals of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences aimed at building a knowledge economy, investing in AI technologies, and keeping pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) within the framework of Oman Vision 2040 goals related to education, learning, research and building national capacities.
