RAMALLAH: In a significant achievement, the State of Palestine, represented by the Central Bureau of Statistics, has secured the first position in the Statistical Performance Index (SPI) at the level of the Middle East and North Africa region.

This recognition comes as part of the World Bank’s assessment of national statistical systems for the year 2022.

Palestine received an overall score of 83.4% in the comprehensive index, which comprises five key pillars. Remarkably, the country scored 100% in data utilization, demonstrating a commitment to widely and consistently providing data through the statistical system. Additionally, it earned a score of 92.1% in data services, emphasizing the connection between data users and producers, facilitating dialogue between them.

The assessment also revealed Palestine’s achievement of 73.1% in data products, indicating the country’s ability to produce indicators related to the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals.

Furthermore, the evaluation recognized Palestine wi
th a score of 66.7% in data sources, expanding beyond traditional censuses and surveys to include administrative, geographical, private sector, and citizen-generated data.

Palestine demonstrated a robust data infrastructure, receiving an 85.0% score in data infrastructure, encompassing both physical infrastructure (legislation, governance, and standards) and non-physical infrastructure (skills and partnerships), along with the necessary financial resources.
