PM chairs 12th meeting of higher committee in charge of COP27 preparations

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli chaired on Thursday 27/10/2022 the 12th meeting of the higher committee concerned with preparations for the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) – due to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in November.

 

The meeting is meant to follow up the ongoing preparations for the gathering.

 

A number of ministers attended the meeting alongside the South Sinai governor and officials from the ministries and bodies concerned.

 

The premier stressed following up the ongoing preparations for the conference, referring to efforts to reflect the value of Sharm el-Sheikh as a tourist city.

 

Thursday’s meeting was meant to stand on the final touches of preparations for the summit, the premier said.

 

For his part, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry – the President Designate for the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) – reviewed the efforts being exerted by the Foreign Ministry’s team work in tandem with other ministries and the bodies concerned.

 

Meanwhile, Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad reviewed the COP27 preparations and the agenda of he event, as well as the logistic and organizational measures for receiving participants in the event.

 

She also highlighted the positive outcome of the national media campaign for spreading awareness about the dangers of climate change.

 

For her part, Minister of International Cooperation Rania Mashat reviewed the outcome of the efforts exerted to mobilize development financing to encourage the private sector in order to implement a number of green projects.

 

She also referred to partnership agreements of the Nexus on Water, Food and Energy (NWFE), due to be signed on the fringe of the COP27.

 

Transport Minister Kamel Wazir said 120 buses operating with natural gas were secured in Sharm el- Sheikh for the event in addition to 110 e-vehicles.

 

Also, uniforms were secured for bus rivers in addition to holding training sessions for all workers in the conference’s transport mechanism, he added.

 

He expounded the smart green transportation mechanism, noting that 97 percent of e-bus stations was finalized.

 

The minister said Sharm el -Sheikh became the first Egyptian city having sustainable, green and smart transportation in five months only.

 

Meanwhile, Communications Minister Amr Talaat said that 19 additional cell phone stations were set up in Sharm el- Sheikh, in addition to 8 mobile stations to ensure high quality communication services during the event.

 

Also, Sports and Youth Minister Ashraf Sobhy reviewed preparations for hosting the 17th UN Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY17) in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh on November 3-5.
