PM: Economic conference targets outlining roadmap to overcome challenges

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said the government was keen on holding the economic conference to highlight the current challenges pressuring the Egyptian economy.

 

A constructive dialogue with experts and all the community segments should be pursuit to identify such challenges, and devise a roadmap to tackle these challenges immediately after the conference, Madbouli said in a press conference on Wednesday.

 

We set October 23-25 as a date for organizing the economic conference, called for by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the premier said.

 

He added that the president instructed that the conference should include all segments and experts.

 

The conference will be held in parallel with the national dialogue, Madbouli said, adding that the conference will come up with a package of incentives directed to the export and industrial sectors in the coming period.

 

The premier wished that the conference could achieve hoped-for targets for the Egyptian economy in the short and medium terms.

 

Up to 21 local and international bodies are likely to be invited to the conference, which is expected to attract around 400-500 participants, Madbouli pointed out.

 

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli pointed out that ministries, heads of the industrial and trade associations, export councils, businessmen, along with businessmen societies, presidents of universities, lawmakers, representatives of local and foreign companies, and ambassadors are expected to take part in the economic conference.

 

The conference agenda will tackle macroeconomics, empowering the private sector, and outlining a roadmap for all sectors to push forward national economy, he added.

 

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said the first day of the economic conference will begin with an opening session aimed at providing an overview of the performance indicators of the Egyptian economy and how far it was resilient in facing major economic crises.

 

He pointed out that over the past ten years, Egypt has gone through 5 major crises, whether local or global.

 

Madbouly added that the second session on the first day will tackle economic policies and national priorities for implementing Egypt’s Vision 2030 in the coming period, and this session aims to open discussion for all experts and participants to listen to their views to identify the challenges and steps that must be taken.

 

He said the third session will include the financial policies, the size of the financial performance of the Egyptian state and the size of the public debt, and then the last session on the first day will discuss inflation and monetary policies, noting that the entire world is suffering from high inflation rate.

 

The third day of the conference will identify the different sectors that make up the Egyptian economy, and meetings will be held with experts and specialists in each sector to agree on challenges and come up with a necessary road map.

 

He pointed out that on this day, 9 to 10 specialized sessions will be held, each session dealing with a specific sector such as the energy, new and renewable energy sectors and investment in solar energy projects, wind energy projects and green hydrogen.

 

The last day of the conference, a communiqué will be issued to highlight the agreed-upon recommendations and initiatives, which should feature a roadmap for Egypt to tackle all challenges.

 

Madbouli said a website for the upcoming national economic conference will be launched as of Thursday to allow all stakeholders, experts and youth to express their opinions.

 

It is possible that there will be a large number of youth and experts who will not participate in the conference but still they have visions and unconventional ideas as regards the conference, Madbouli said.

 

A mobile platform or application will also be launched on Thursday for the same purpose, the premier noted.
