PM reviews final draft of “National Climate Change Strategy 2050”

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Sunday reviewed the final draft of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050.

The strategy represents a cornerstone for Egypt’s preparation to host the 27th UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC COP 27), Madbouli said during a ministerial meeting.

The meeting grouped Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aty, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el Saeed, Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad, alongside senior officials of various bodies concerned.

Madbouli said he is directly and continuously following up on the ongoing preparations for the development of Sharm El-Sheikh as an environment-friendly city in preparation for hosting the important conference.

The meetings, held with Egypt on the sidelines of the sixth European-African Summit, reflected great interest from countries and international bodies to support Egypt’s presidency of the upcoming COP27 conference, he added.

It is necessary to take advantage of this momentum in supporting national issues related to climate action and enhancing Egypt’s role in the climate change file, the premier said.

In turn, the foreign minister highlighted the European Union’s interest in supporting Egypt to become a regional hub for green hydrogen to help Europe meet its needs for clean energy, in light of the European desire to diversify its sources of energy supply.
