Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh today stated that Israel’s measures are tantamount to a re-occupation of the West Bank. Speaking during a meeting with Japan’s Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Shigeo Yamada in the presence of Japan’s Ambassador for Palestinian Affairs Yoichi Nakashima at the Prime Minister’s Office in the West Bank city of Ramallah, Premier Shtayyeh said that the measures carried out by Israel across the Palestinian territories, including daily incursions, extrajudicial killings, detention raids, encroachments upon Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and land grab to make room for colonial settlement expansion and settler-colonialism, are all tantamount to a re-occupation of the West Bank. He added that Israel was reneging on the agreements it has concluded and prevented Palestinians from holding elections in Jerusalem, as he called for putting pressure on Israel to oblige it to comply to all signed agreements, particularly with regards to allowing elections be held across the Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, halting all deductions from the Palestinian tax revenues and releasing all withheld funds. He concluded by commending Japan for its unwavering position in support of and maintaining distinguished bilateral relations with Palestine.
