RAMALLAH: During a meeting in Ramallah today, President Mahmoud Abbas briefed the British Foreign Minister, David Cameron, on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territory, especially in the Gaza Strip.

The President stressed the immediate urgency to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

He also affirmed the necessity of accelerating the introduction of humanitarian aid into Gaza and enabling shelter centers and hospitals to do their duty of alleviating the suffering of civilians.

The president further stressed the need to put an end to the occupation forces and terrorist colonists’ attacks carried out against Palestinians in the West Bank.

President Abbas renewed the State of Palestine’s categorical rejection of displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip or the West Bank, including Jerusalem, stressing that there is no security or military solution for the Gaza Strip.

He affirmed that Gaza is an integral part of the Pa
lestinian state, stating that the plans of the occupation authorities to separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, cannot be accepted, nor dealt with, emphasizing his rejection of the reoccupation and reduction of its territory.

The President underscored the need for Israeli occupation authorities to stop their oppressive practices, ethnic cleansing, the undermining of the two-state solution, the crimes carried out by terrorist colonists, and the attacks of the occupation forces.

He also urged Israel to stop withholding and release the Palestinian Authority’s tax funds.

Security and peace are achieved by steering toward a political solution in accordance with the two-state solution, based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative to end the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, said the president.

President Abbas assured the British Foreign Minister that recognizing the State of Palestine and supporting its ende
avor to obtain full membership in the United Nations through a Security Council decision are crucial entry points for the implementation of the political solution based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, as well as for reaching Arab and international consensus for the convening of an international peace conference to implement a comprehensive peace plan; to be implemented with international guarantees and a specific timetable.
