US Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell was discharged from the hospital Monday after being treated for a fall at a hotel and suffering a concussion.

“Leader McConnell’s concussion recovery is proceeding well, and the leader was discharged from the hospital today,” said McConnell’s Communications Director David Popp in a statement.

“At the advice of his physician, the next step will be a period of physical therapy at an inpatient rehabilitation facility before he returns home,” said Popp.

McConnell also suffered “a minor rib fracture” during the fall, according to doctors.

McConnell, 81, was attending a campaign committee dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday evening when he tripped and fell.

In 2019, the Republican took a tumble at his home in the US state of Kentucky and fractured his shoulder.

First elected in 1984, McConnell became the longest-serving Senate leader when the new Congress convened in January, breaking the previous record of 16 years.
