WETEX 2024 day one offers 44 seminars, discussion panels

DUBAI: Day one of the 26th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) hosted 44 specialised seminars and discussion panels delivered by a group of leading global experts and specialists.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organises WETEX annually under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.

The 26th edition of WETEX takes place from 1 to 3 October 2024 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The Main Seminars agenda presented nine sessions, discussing several topics, including ‘Innovation for a Sustainable Energy Future Takes Ambition’, presented by ACWA Power, and ‘Abu Dhabi Public Policy on Low-Carbon Hydrogen’, presented by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy.

Siemens Energy presented a seminar on ‘Managing the Renewables Integration Challenge’ while ENOC Group presented a seminar titled ‘ENOC
Link – World’s First Smart Biodiesel Solar Station’ and Masdar delivered a seminar under the theme ‘Use of Waste Materials for Production of High-value Products and Fuels’.

Additionally, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) hosted a seminar on ‘Emissions Reduction from Public Transportation’, TESAR S.R.L. presented the seminar ‘Ecoplus 2030 Transformer, Data Centre Application’, Siemens Energy delivered a seminar on the ‘Power Plant Intelligent Controller for Jebel Ali Power Plant’ and AASA Middle East Contracting held a seminar on ‘Green Hydrogen’.

Day one of the Future Energy Landscape Forum, held on the sidelines of WETEX, focused on advancing decarbonisation strategies in the upstream oil and gas industry. The first session was presented by Dragon Oil, titled ‘Dragon Oil’s Decarbonisation Initiatives and Opportunities’. The second session was titled ‘Challenges in Decarbonising the Oil and Gas Sector’ while the third session focused on ‘Innovative Solutions for Decarbonisation of the Oil and Gas
Sector’. An interactive session was also held to address questions and inquiries from the audience.

Renewables and Sustainability Seminars

The Renewables and Sustainability Seminars on the first day of WETEX focused on renewable energy, hydrogen’s potential and catalysts for the energy transition. The first day’s sessions were inaugurated by the Clean Energy Business Council MENA. This was followed by the second session, titled ‘Setting the Stage for Renewable Growth in MENA: Policies, Progress and Potential’.

The following sessions were titled: ‘The Challenge of Zero Hour – What Will It Take to Run the Grid with No Gas Generation’, ‘Solar Power Evolution: From Utility Scale to Distributed Energy’, ‘Harnessing Sun Radiance and Heat: The Thermodynamic Solar Edge’, ‘Driving Energy Transition: A Comprehensive Approach to Integrating Renewables into Existing Power Systems’ and ‘Transforming the Grid: Advanced Storage Technologies and Integrated Solutions’.

Moreover, the seminars included ‘Hydrogen Economy: Bu
ilding Blocks for a Sustainable Energy Future’, ‘Hydrogen Transportation’, ‘Hydrogen Case Study: Industrial Applications’ and ‘Unlocking the Potential of Green Hydrogen: Strategies for Integration into the Regional Energy Mix’.

The Water Seminars addressed topics such as ‘Global Water Resilience, Security and a Just Transition’, ‘Managing Urban Flood Risk in a Changing Climate’, ‘The Benefits of Water Quality Monitoring in Distribution Networks’, ‘Optimising Energy Efficiency in Water Treatment’, ‘Enhancing Water Security’ and the ‘Future of the Pipe Industry’.

The Health and Safety Hub featured discussion panels on topics such as ‘Sustainable Health and Safety at the Workplace with ISO 45001’, ‘ISO 45003: Psychological Health and Safety at Work’, ‘Creating a Sustainable Future: Mitigating the Impact of Climate Change on Our Workforce’, ‘Climate-Resilient Solutions for Future Communities’, ‘Leadership’s Role in Promoting Sustainable Workplace Wellbeing’, ‘Health, Safety and Sustainability’, ‘Building a Safe
r Tomorrow: The Role of Competency Frameworks in Promoting a Health and Safety Culture in the Workplace’, ‘Best Practices on Health and Safety’, ‘Adrenal Fatigue at Work – Guidelines for Improving Adrenal Fatigue and Gut Health’ and ‘Innovation and Safety Management’.

The Supplier Relations Management (SRM) sessions focused on supplier engagement and interactions with DEWA and DEWA’s supplier life cycle and communication channels. Day one also included an open discussion with stakeholders from the Supply Chain Management Department at DEWA.
