JENIN: A woman from the town of Barta’a, located southwest of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, gave birth today to a baby at an Israeli military checkpoint near the town, amid continuing Israeli movement restrictions.

Mohammed Salma Qabaha, told WAFA that his wife, Asil, experienced labor at the military checkpoint of Barta’a. He said his wife’s mother, who works as a midwife, assisted her in the delivery inside the vehicle.

The newborn, a baby boy named Shamiakh, was later transferred to the nursery at Jenin Governmental Hospital after an ambulance arrived at the checkpoint to help the mother and her newborn.

It is worth noting that since October 7th, the Israeli occupation forces have been opening the checkpoint from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and afterward, it is completely closed, prohibiting the movement of Palestinian citizens.
