NNA: Kataeb Party MP, Elie Marouni, said that his bloc was seeking a Lebanese President that shares his party’s national and sovereign affiliations, calling on March 14 forces to swiftly reach agreement over a single presidential candidate.
Interviewed by Orient Radio station, the lawmaker said that Bkirki insisted on holding presidential elections on date and expressed concerns regarding a possible postponement of the deadline.
Marouni also considered that the formation of a government which obtained confidence and the success of the security plan in Tripoli and the Bekaa, as well as the revival of the work of parliament “have created a positive climate which we must benefit from.”
He also pointed out that the salary scale was a fair claim, but warned that it could be dangerous if revenues were not well insured.
About the Union Coordination Committee’s UCC strike tomorrow, in line with the joint Parliamentary Committees meeting, Marouni wondered if this move was to pressure MPs, noting that each lawmaker must serve the interests of the employees of both private and public sectors, “while safeguarding the tenacity of the state.”
