Dubai: Ajman continued their fight for survival in the league with a solitary goal away win against Al Wasl in a late night match of the Arabian Gulf League on Friday.
Going into the 18th round of the league pegged into 12th spot with 12 points, Ajman rode on a 37th minute strike from Mansour Abbas to collect full points.
The club, however, continues in the same position, but the three points pulled them away from the bottom two teams – Al Shaab in 13th with 12 points and Dubai Club at the bottom of the standings with nine.
It was Al Wasl who showed better coordination and long periods of possession. The visitors were content in chasing everything and waiting for their chance of quick counter-attacks.
Al Wasl came close to scoring on at least two occasions within the first 20 minutes with Brazilian winter transfer window signing Ricardo Oliveira missing on both occasions.
Eventually, Ajman took the lead much against the run of play after Mansour Abbas headed in from a corner on the 37th minute.
Al Wasl tried their best to continue spreading out the game, but found Ajman defending in numbers and then quick on the counter.
