Al-Jaafari: Racial discrimination is global plague which negatively affects human rights

UN General Assembly held on Wednesday a high-level meeting to celebrate the 20th anniversary of adopting the declaration and work plan of Durban on racial discrimination .

 

Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Bashar al-Jaafari said that Syria’s delegation welcomes convening this international conference which is considered as a remarkable event in the struggle to improve the lives of millions of people who are victims of discrimination and extremism all over the world.

 

“While a progress has been achieved since 2001, there is a continuous need for a genuine political will to implement the declaration and its program which adopts long-term measures to combat racism with all its forms, including combating poverty, boosting education and realizing development,” al-Jaafari said.

 

In this context, al-Jaafari added that the Israeli occupation authorities still adopt the policy of racial discrimination against Syrian citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan through violating their right of self-determination and their right in life, work, health, education, while the Palestinians are subjected to the utmost practices of discrimination.

 

Al-Jaafari added that racial discrimination and hatred of foreigners is a dangerous global plague which negatively affect the human rights, affirming that Syria is committed to exert all efforts to overcome this plague and it calls for providing a political will and international cooperation to tackle all forms of racism.
