Aoun tackles educational affairs with Chehayeb, demarcation and refugee affairs with UN’s Kubis

Baabda Presidential Palace witnessed on Tuesday a series of meetings dealing with educational and diplomatic affairs.

Minister of Education, Akram Chehayeb, met with President Aoun and briefed him on the arrangements made for this year's official exams, the general educational condition, and the ongoing protests of Lebanese University professors.

"I discussed with the President the Lebanese University's ordeal in the wake of the strike called forth by the Teachers' Union. I hope that this strike will be put to a halt to save the academic year for the sake of LU students," the Minister said on emerging.

"The graduates of this university have played a major role in promoting economy and culture in Lebanon and other countries. Therefore, maintaining this university is a duty, and the demands of the teachers are righteous," he added.

As for the official exams, Chehayeb confirmed that they would be taking place tomorrow, and "they will be serious and well-organized."

Separately, the President welcomed at Baabda Palace, in the presence of Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Salim Jreissati, UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jan Kubis.

The UN official briefed the President on the outcome of a meeting that had been held in New York between UN Secretary-General General, Antonio Guterres, and the Secretary-General's Personal Representatives, which was dedicated to presenting their work in a number of countries in the world, including Lebanon.

The meeting with Aoun reportedly touched on the ongoing cooperation between Lebanon and the United Nations, the Syrian refugee dossier, and developments vis-A-vis Lebanon's land and sea border demarcation, in light of the initiative undertaken by US Ambassador, David Satterfield.

Diplomatically, President Aoun welcomed Slovenia's ambassador to Lebanon, Igor Joki?, marking the end of his diplomatic mission in Lebanon.

On another level, President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, will preside on Wednesday over a celebration marking the centennial of the Court of Cassation at the Palace of Justice.
