Aoun to Parly: Lebanon committed to 1701 and repatriation of Syrian displaced

President Michel Aoun on Tuesday extolled on the friendship and cooperation relations between Lebanon and France, underlining his wish to bolster them at all levels.

During his meeting with French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly at Baabda palace, Aoun heaped praise on France's support for the Lebanese army and contribution to the UNIFIL.

Moreover, the President reiterated Lebanon's commitment to UN resolution 1701, indicating that the situation is stable along the Lebanese southern borders, while contacts on border demarcation negotiations, led by the US, are still underway.

Also, Aoun maintained that "Lebanon holds onto the repatriation of the displaced Syrians without waiting for the political solution to the Syrian crisis."

"The majority of Syrian lands are now safe and tension is confined in only 10% on its territories," he said, adding that 300 000 Syrians have already left Lebanon and returned to Syria.

Within this frame, Aoun highlighted Lebanon's capacity to hold direct negotiations with the Syrian authorities.

For her part, Parly conveyed to her host President Emmanuel Macron's greetings, and stressed that her country was ready to reinforce the Lebanese army.
