Aoun to UK Defence Senior Adviser: Lebanon committed to resolution 1701

President Michel Aoun on Monday renewed Lebanon's commitment to the implementation of UN resolution 1701, and highlighted the importance support of the Security Council to push the Israeli enemy cease its violations of the Lebanese sovereignty.

In his meeting with UK's Defence Senior Adviser on the Middle East, Lieutenant General Sir John Lorimer, Aoun maintained that regional wars and tensions had taken a toll on Lebanon and its economic situation and led to a displacement crisis.

Accordingly, Aoun indicated to his guest that despite the repatriation of 318 thousand displaced, more than 1.6 million Syrians were still present onto the Lebanese soil.

For his part, Lorimer confirmed to his host that the UK would continue supporting Lebanon, especially the Lebanese Armed Forces.

He also explained that his visit to Lebanon was part of a tour in the region to assess the latest developments.
