The Baabda Palace witnessed this afternoon a series of political, diplomatic and cultural meetings, at a time when President Michel Aoun continued his contacts to follow up on the political developments related to the formation of the new government.
Politically, President Aoun received a delegation of the "Loyalty to the Resistance" bloc, which included the caretaker Minister of Industry, Hussein Hajj Hassan, and Deputies Ali Ammar and Amin Sherri, with talks featuring high on the domestic and regional issues and the overall political situation.
Aoun also received member of the "strong Lebanon" parliamentary bloc, MP Ziad Aswad, and discussed with him the current political situation and the demands of the Jezzine and Sidon regions, in addition to developmental projects underway.
MP Aswad underlined "President Aoun's interest in the social, developmental and living conditions of the two regions, same as all the Lebanese regions."
Diplomatically, Aoun tackled with the Director of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organization, Dr. Ahmed bin Salim Al-Mandhari, and the organization's representative in Lebanon, Dr. Iman Al-Shankiti, the role of the Organization in supporting the health sector in Lebanon and the whole Middle East Region which is affected by the Syrian crisis.
President Aoun congratulated Dr. Al-Mandhari on his "election as regional director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, and on receiving the highest number of votes since the first session", wishing him "success in his duties along the coming years, especially as the difficult conditions experienced by the region exacerbated health problems and urged constant support for health sectors in countries and for people suffering from the consequences of war."
The Head of State later met with a delegation from the Lebanese American University (LAU), who briefed him on the "International Medical Conference" organized by the University under the title: "International Symposium of Artery Neuropathy" to be held on July 25, with the participation of Lebanese, Arab and foreign doctors, under the auspices of the President of the Republic.
President Aoun praised the "international scientific conferences organized in Lebanon," adding that it "affirms the continuing confidence in this country and its pioneering cultural and scientific role."
A delegation from the Army Command paid a visit to the president at the Baabda Palace and invited him to preside over the celebration to be held on the 1st of August on the occasion of Army Day.
On a different note, President Aoun cabled his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, congratulating "the French national football team on the World Cup victory for the second time in its history."
He praised the "determination and commitment shown by the French team players during the World Cup qualifiers," stressing that "Lebanon shares the joy of the French on this remarkable achievement," and wishing France "further victories.
