PARIS, Jan 9– Arab ambassadors to France on Thursday strongly condemned as “an abominable crime” the shooting dead on Wednesday of 12 people at the head office of the satirical “Charlie Hebdo” weekly in central Paris.
Two suspects, purportedly linked to Al-Qaeda, are on the run and are being sought in a huge manhunt in northern France.
In a statement, the Arab ambassadors said the killings were “barbaric” and a “terrorist act” and they denounced violence against the media.
“The member countries of the Arab League are committed, alongside the other parties in the international community, in the fight against terrorism, intolerance and extremism,” the statement said.
The condemnation mirrors an earlier statement by the Arab League headquarters in Cairo and by leading figures and countries in the Muslim world.
