CAIRO, June 8 — Senior officials of the Organization of Muslim Organization (OIC), Arab League, Gulf Cooperation Council and Arab Maghreb Union agreed Saturday on coordinating stances at international events and organizations.
In a press statement, Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Fadel Jawad said that the agreement was reached during a meeting in Cairo upon an invitation from the Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil Al-Araby.
He added that secretary generals of the four organizations will hold a coordinating meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s annual meeting in September.
Jawad noted that the senior officials have approved a conceptional framework paper on the mechanism of consultation and coordination among the four organizations over the main Arab and Muslim causes such as the Palestinian cause, the conflicts in Syria and Somalia as well as the instability in Libya.
The general secretaries would convene in the coming months to outline a similar framework for coordination in dealing with the United Nations, European Union and African Union, he said.
