CAIRO, June 27 – The Arab League on Thursday condemned Israeli escalation in the Palestinian territories, as well as denouncing international “silence” over “heinous” crimes against the Palestinian people.
“There is an open war on the Palestinian people,” said the League’s Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Arab Occupied Lands Ambassador Mohammad Subaih in a press release.
He also pointed out to the full-fledged siege and arrests against MPs, ministers and freed prisoners, in addition to “cold-blooded” killing of children in the West Bank and Gaza, along with property damage.
Meanwhile, the League expressed regret over electing Israel as deputy chair of the UN Fourth Special Political and Decolonization Committee, which deals in part with Palestinian refugees.
According to Ambassador Subaih, “the Arab and Muslim groups, as well as NAM, tried to prevent that but failed due to European and US support,” voicing wonderment over the contradiction of having an occupation-based state in such committee.
