Baalbek and Hermel MPs on Wednesday sounded the alarm on emptying Syrian refugee wastewater in the region, warning that this quandary might lead to an environmental catastrophe if not thrashed out swiftly and properly.
The MPs held concerned ministries and security forces responsible for this calamity and requested of both sides to instantly halt this "environmental crime."
This statement came in response to a huge number of complaints that had been lodged by north Baalbek residents about tens of tanker trucks carrying wastewater from Arsal refugee camps and emptying it in spacious and bare land.
"This is a health and environmental hazard, not to mention that it's a threat to groundwater and wells. It also dangerously affects Al-Assi River in Labweh," a statement by the region's MPs read.
