Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister, Gebran Bassil, welcomed on Thursday Italian Ambassador to Lebanon, Massimo Marotti. The pair followed up on the outcome of Rome II Conference. Consequently, the Italian diplomat informed Minister Bassil about Italy's approval of a plan to support the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Internal Security Forces.
In 2018, the Italian Army will deliver 53 training courses for special units in the Lebanese Army. Also, the Italian Security Agency will coordinate with concerned companies to provide both institutions with new equipment. "
Separately, Bassil discussed the general situation and regional developments with Russia's Ambassador, Alexander Zasypkin, who said after the meeting that he had informed Bassil about Russian efforts, in cooperation with the Syrian authorities, for the normalization of the situation in Syria, and the elimination of terrorist, as well as to improve the humanitarian situation and reach a political settlement in Syria.
"We are aware of the anti-Iranian campaign and the hysterical escalation against Syria and Russia through the falsification of facts, especially regarding the use of chemical weapons and at the level of human rights," he added. We affirm that Russia stands firmly against all such plots that oppose international legitimacy.
Bassil also received Ambassador Ali bin Hamad al-Marri of Qatar, who congratulated him on winning parliamentary elections. The pair also discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and the situation in the region.
