Belgian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alex Lenhart, held on Thursday evening a cocktail reception at his Yarzeh residence, marking Belgium's National Day.
"It is our duty as diplomats representing the International community to support Lebanon and preserve its institutions and stability. This will be translated in the form of a Belgian grant to the Lebanese Army soon," the Belgian diplomat said in a word he addressed to senior Lebanese officials and dignitaries.
"The Middle East is ripping apart and war is near, but despite the Syrian conflict and the refugee crisis, Lebanon has amazingly managed to keep standing on its feet," he added, joining his voice to those relentlessly calling for the election of a Lebanese President soon.
Lenhart went on to voice pride for being part of the European Union, which he described as a peace and solidarity project, rather than a mere institution.
"It is true that the EU has been enduring tough times, but I firmly believe that it will manage to surpass prevailing difficulties stronger than before," he added, deploring the terror that's been lately infesting almost every part of the world.
"We face criminal barbarics who are fond of death, but we believe in life. Our values will conquer all," he added.
The diplomat also hailed the role of robust Lebanese women building the future of the nation.
