House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday met at his Ain el-Tineh residence, the Minister of National Education and Higher Education, Akram Shehayeb, with whom he discussed the strike of the Lebanese University's instructors.
"Instructors' League has submitted to me a list of demands... Most of thees demands is righteous. It is possible to find a quick compromise on some of these demands, while others require further time and study. Demands were righteous, but it is the timing of the strike that is not suitable (...)," explained the minister, stressing the need to safeguard the LU.
"Speaker Berri has reaffirmed some of these demands and we have contacted the LU President and the Minister of Finance, hoping to reach a satisfactory solution for all parties, without wasting the academic year to the students," he added.
In addition, Berri reviewed the current developments in the country with Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon, Ali Abdel Karim Ali.
He also met with the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jan Kubis over the situation in Lebanon and the broad region, as well as the issue of maritime and land borders.
Berri also received MP Assaad Hardane with the current situation topping their discussions.
The Speaker later met with former Minister Melhem Riachi.
