WASHINGTON, - US Secretary of Defence, Ash Carter, congratulated the people of Manbij, north Syria, on Monday, after the city was reclaimed from the so-called Daesh.
Carter lauded the success of the US-backed Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) "enabled by critical Coalition support" to be "another significant milestone in the campaign to deal (the Daesh) a lasting defeat."
The city was a key transit point for Daesh fighters going into Syria and Iraq, and for facilitating plots against the US and its allies, said Carter in a statement.
"The success in Manbij city will also help reinforce the growing isolation of Raqqa and enable us to achieve the next objective of our campaign in Syria - collapsing (Daesh)'s control over that city," he added.
The Secretary acknowledged that, the people of Manbij now have the "difficult job of rebuilding their homes and communities, and I call on all of our coalition partners, to help them with that task.
