Egypt is witnessing a drop in coronavirus cases due to increase in vaccination rates, said Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

Abdel Ghaffar also said the citizens developed strong immunity against the virus.

Hospital occupancy for Covid-19 patients also decreased, he added in a phone interview with On TV channel on Monday night.

About 45 million people have received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine and more than 34.5 million have been fully vaccinated, noted the spokesman.

Asked if the Covid-19 vaccines would be administered annually, Abdel Ghaffar pointed out that controlling this virus will only be possible if everyone is included in vaccination efforts.

He, meanwhile, said that vaccination with the booster dose for those over 65 years old will be three months after the date of receiving the last dose.
