Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdullatif Derian met at Dar-al-Fatwa on Thursday, with Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin, with whom he discussed the current situation on the local, regional and international scenes.
Speaker to reporters following the meeting, Zasypkin expressed hope that the situation in Lebanon would improve “through finding solutions for the home agenda, forming the government, and [restoring] the normal work of the state institutions.”
“I have previously highlighted the importance of clinching security and stability in this country,” he said.
“If the process of relation normalization with Syria moves forward, then this will definitely have positive consequences on Lebanon,” he added.
“We are communicating with all the key sides to encourage an agreement over the government formation,” he indicated.
“We are convinced that there must be a Lebanese decision, regardless of what happens in the region, because this is in the interest of Lebanon,” he underlined.
Derian later met with Turkish Ambassador to Lebanon, Hakan Cakil, who came on a protocol visit.
The pair reportedly discussed the means to bolster the cooperation between Dar-al-Fatwa and the Turkish Directorate of Religious Affairs, as well as to strengthen the Lebanese-Turkish ties in all fields.
