Dubai: Sandance’s New Year’s Eve line-up just got louder.
Legendary British DJ Pete Tong is the latest addition to the Atlantis, The Palm event, announced organizers on Wednesday. He will join fellow British turntable veteran, Paul Oakenfold, Sweden’s remix guru, Axwell, and soulful UK singer Emeli Sande.
53-year-old Tong is recognized worldwide for his crucial contributions to acid house and electronic music, with 25 years of experience. He’s been a staple on BBC Radio 1 since 1991, with a show that is globally known as the Essential Selection, but is now recognized as simply The Pete Tong Show. It garners over 2 million listeners overall, according to the artist’s website.
Tong has been around long enough that he’s even been turned into a catchphrase, “It’s All Gone Pete Tong”, which is meant to rhyme with “a bit wrong”. The phrase, which Tong said originated from a fanzine that was trying to criticise him years ago, has since been turned into something positive. It’s now the name of a film (not about Tong himself, but about a fictional DJ going deaf), Tong’s Ibiza-based club night, and his nightly American radio show under iHeartRadio.
Tong has performed in Dubai repeatedly over the past decade, with his latest visit being just last year.
Don’t miss it
