Dubai: The eagerly anticipated European Challenge Tour finale in Dubai moves a step closer as the pre-event pro-am competition takes place on Wednesday.
Some 22 teams made up of one professional and three amateurs each will tee off at Al Badia Golf Club from 7.30am. The pro-am will have a friendly, time-saving feel as it will be played in a “par is your friend” format, which means players can’t score lower than par on each hole.
The tournament is a curtain-raiser to the Dubai Festival City Challenge Tour Grand Final, which begins on Thursday. The four-day main event will see the tour’s top 45 players compete for a place in the top 15 of the order of merit, which will secure them a card for the 2014 full European Tour, as well as a prize fund of €330,000 (Dh1.67 million).
Thursday’s first group of three players will tee off on the first hole at Al Badia at 9am, with the final group starting at 11.45am. Entry for spectators is free and free golf lessons will also be available, while visitors can take part in a Nearest the Pin Challenge.
Spectators can also register on the four tournament days to be entered into a draw for a chance to win one of 55 prizes totalling more than Dh100,000 — including full golf membership of Al Badia, TaylorMade equipment, golf academy packages, performance lab sessions and dining experiences.
Chris O’Donnell, Group Director of Real Estate at Al Badia Golf Club owners the Al Futtaim Group, said: “Al Badia is delighted to be the home of the European Challenge Tour Grand Final. The course is magnificent and is set to provide a real challenge for the next generation of the European Tour’s talent.
