Dubai plans to increase the city’s electric vehicle charging stations by 170 percent to 1,000 by 2025 as part of its plans to support green mobility, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) official WAM news agency reported Sunday.

The city currently has 370 charging stations, the report said, citing the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

The UAE city seeks to generate 100 percent of its power from clean energy sources by 2050 and has rolled out a long-term strategy to migrate toward net-zero emission public transport by 2050, it added.

The number of electric vehicle owners in Dubai has increased from a mere 14 in 2015 to more than 11,000 by the end of May 2023. Dubai aims to have over 42,000 electric cars on its roads by 2030, according to the WAM report.
