Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita agreed on Monday on going ahead with reactivating all cooperation frameworks to set the stage for holding meetings of the higher Egyptian-Moroccan committee under the co-chairmanship of the two countries’ leaders.
Egypt also reaffirmed its support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its commitment to the UN-led process to settle the Western Sahara issue.
The Egyptian stance was expressed in a joint communiqué, issued following talks between both ministers.
Shoukri stressed Egypt’s support for the content of Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2602, which welcomed Morocco’s serious and credible efforts to move forward towards a political settlement of the Sahara issue.
At the official invitation of Bourita, Shoukri, made a visit to the Kingdom of Morocco during which the two sides held in-depth talks earlier today.
The two ministers discussed bilateral relations and means to promote cooperation in line with the directives of President Abdel Fatah El Sisi and Moroccan King Mohammed VI.
The talks also focused on the centuries-old relations and the fraternal ties binding the two countries, as well as the unity of their destiny and common objectives.
Figuring high during the talks were the issues of the Ethiopian dam, Morocco’s support to Egypt’s water rights, the Palestinian problem and the Palestinian right to independence as well as the protection of the Arab and Islamic identity of Al Quds, Egypt’s efforts to maintain the Palestinian-Israeli ceasefire, the Libyan problem and ways to restore peace and stability to the conflict-hit country, inter-African relations, African Union reforms in addition to strengthening joint Arab action, the fight against terrorism and extremism and transnational crimes as well as preparations for the UN climate conference, COP27, to be hosted by Egypt in November.
