Egypt’s mission to the United Nations will organize a symposium on the progress of women’s rights in Egypt with the participation of National Council for Women Chairperson Maya Morsi along with a galaxy of heads of diplomatic missions in Geneva as well as representatives of international organizations, journalists and Egyptians living in Switzerland.
Egypt’s Permanent Delegate to the United Nations Ambassador Ahmed Ehab Gamal El-Din said the symposium is held on the fringe of the Egyptian delegation participation in the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) which is due to discuss Egypt’s report on women’s status later in the day.
Gamal El Din said the symposium reviews Cairo’s national strategy for women empowerment for 2030 which was approved by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi as well as several legislative amendments to guarantee equal opportunities and protection of women against violence.
Egypt’s ambassador noted that the event also covers the Egyptian national strategy for human rights, launched by Sisi in the past month, which is targeting the period from 2021 till 2026.
The symposium aims at underlining the Egyptian state’s efforts for the enhancement and protection of basic human rights and freedoms as part of a national vision to guarantee the citizen’s basic rights which is a vital axis of the overall development process in the country, the ambassador added.
