Cultures will come together at the Abu Dhabi Festival this March 21st. Joining jazz-funk musician Herbie Hancock on stage will be Emirati singer-songwriter Hamdan Al Abri, bringing a regional flavour to the American performer’s set.
Al Abri, who is known both as a solo artist and the front man for Dubai-based soul band ABRI, has previously performed alongside international acts across genres such as Joss Stone, Ziggy Marley, Erykah Badu and Kanye West.
Hoda Al Khamis, founder and artistic director of the festival, said the collaboration would be the perfect expression of Hancock’s collaborative spirit and his perception of music as a universal language.
“It seeks to reflect the determination of the capital to take the lead in cultural understanding,” she said in a press release. “These artistic collaborations bring this ethos to life and I can’t wait to see Herbie Hancock and Hamdan Al Abri share their beautiful musical talents with the rest of the UAE.”
The Abu Dhabi Festival runs between March 21-31 at the Emirates Palace. Tickets range between Dh125-Dh350 and can be bought through virginmegastore.ae. For more information, go to abudhabifestival.ae.
