Thousands of suspicious phone calls Lebanese citizens received yesterday appeared to be conducted by the Israeli enemy, through a high-tech piracy network operating from abroad, the Ministry of Telecommunications and Ogero indicated in a statement on Friday.
"On 11/5/2017, a number of Lebanese citizens nationwide (around 10.000 phone numbers) received suspicious phone calls, through a high technology to pirate the phone network from outside Lebanon," the statement read.
"Technical inspection has proven that the phone calls were made from France, Italy, Syria, Iraq, and other countries," it explained.
"We believe that the Israeli enemy is behind the suspicious calls, which are similar to those that took place during the Israeli hostility in 2006," it added.
"The Ministry and Ogero are carrying on investigation to uncover the truth behind the piracy (...) the Lebanese government and the public opinion will be informed of any update," it concluded.
