Foreign Minister and President-Designate of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UN Framework Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC) Sameh Shoukry said Africa is the most vulnerable continent by negative impacts of climate change, although Africa accounts for the smallest share of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Shoukry’s remarks came during a meeting with the African Group of Negotiators on Climate Change (AGN) on the sidelines of the Bonn Climate Change Conference on Wednesday.
Shoukry is now visiting Germany, to attend the 56th session of meetings of the 56th session of the subsidiary bodies of the UNFCCC meetings.
The foreign minister will sign an agreement concerning Egypt’s hosting of COP27, slated in November in Sharm el-Sheikh Red Sea resort city.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said Shoukry referred to difficulties still facing African countries to get climate financing to emerge from these repercussions.
The foreign minister underscored Egypt’s keenness on reviewing African concerns in climate change file as part of Egypt’s hosting of COP27, added Hafez.
The spokesman said Shoukry as well presented the vision of Egypt’s presidency of COP27 and affirmed Egypt’s keenness on achieving harmony among different parties concerned with international climate action.
