FM hails strategic ties between Egypt, US

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry hailed the strategic relations binding Egypt and the US in various areas, asserting that Cairo looks forward to boosting those ties with Washington at all levels.

Shoukry’s comments came during his meeting on Sunday with a group of US Senators and their deputies, on the sidelines of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.

Shoukry, who also acts as president-designate of the COP27, highlighted the considerable interaction between the Egyptian and American sides in the global climate summit, citing the recent meeting that brought together President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and US President Joe Biden.

On their part, the US Senators praised Egypt’s success in organizing the COP27, expressing hope the conference to reach the desirable outcomes that advance international climate action.

The US delegation members pointed to the pioneering role played by Egypt in strengthening regional peace and stability.

The meeting took up a number of international issues, mainly the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its economic repercussions.
