Gazar underlines importance of social housing law

Minister of Housing, Utilities and urban Communities Assem el Gazar on Saturday 14/08/2021 confirmed the importance of the social housing law, which would guarantee decent houses for people.

In remarks during the inauguration of some housing projects in Badr City with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attending, Gazar said the housing file is an issue of supply and demand.

The state has been focusing for years on supply only, but now the focus is on both supply and demand, he said.

Minister Gazar asserted the importance of giving more attention to the transportation sector to cope with urban development trends.

The minister highlighted efforts exerted for fostering sustainable mobility solutions, citing improvements in the mass transportation system and projects for developing roads nationwide.

He added that the ministry’s housing projects aim at meeting all the needs of citizens and ensuring their easy access to educational, health, social, cultural and sports services.

The minster also reviewed the blueprints of the housing units to be established soon by the government.

Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem el Gazar asserted the importance of well-managed urbanization and making proactive and pragmatic preparations for urban population growth, citing the state’s efforts on this score, aided by specialized companies, the social housing fund and the new urban communities authority as well as major companies that have good expertise in managing sustainable urbanization and providing maintenance services for all projects currently being implemented.

He added that the government is providing in-kind and material support for housing projects built within the framework of the social housing program.

He also pointed out that the number of beneficiaries from the home mortgage initiative has so far reached 371,000 citizens

The housing minister also said that after analyzing and studying the housing file in Egypt, the government started to outline solutions for its related problems.

He noted that there are three main aspects for the housing file in Egypt; namely the quantitative dimension, qualitative dimension and the spatial dimension.

Gazzar’s remarks came during the inauguration of a number of housing projects in Badr city with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in attendance.

The minister added that the population in Egypt increases by 2-2.5 million every year, noting that this requires establishing 500,000-600,000 housing units every year.

He also said that the government’s target for 2024 is to establish 2.24 million housing units

Housing minister Gazar said that the state’s strategy aims at providing decent and affordable housing for citizens, adding that its policy is based on support, help and availability.

He also reviewed the blueprints of housing units that were designed before 2014 then others designed after that in which the quality of these units was enhanced.

“Now we have 10 new cities east Cairo including four 4G ones,” the minister said, adding that the government had spent EGP 111 billion on housing development since 2014 including EGP 97 billion on existing cities.

He added that the housing projects to be inaugurated today in four cities in east Cairo include 67,000 housing units.
