Damascus, SANA- Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, Defense Minister, General Ali Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday received Staff Major General Mazen Hamid Shallal Mahdi, Envoy of the Iraqi Minister of Defense, and Chargé d ‘affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus, Adviser Yassin Sharif al-Hajimi.
The Ministry of Defense said in a statement on its website that Staff Maj. Gen. Mahdi conveyed the Iraqi Defense Minister’s heartfelt condolences over the victims of the devastative earthquake hit several provinces in Syria recently, expressing his sincere feelings towards Syria and its people.
Staff Maj. Gen. Mahdi expressed the fraternal Iraq’s solidarity and readiness to provide support and possible assistance to alleviate the burdens of this humanitarian catastrophe.
For his part, Defense Minister appreciated the Iraqi people, government and leadership stances, hailing the historical brotherly relations linking the two brotherly countries that are embodied in providing aid and assistance to the Syrian people in facing this plight.
