The General Security Directorate announced in a statement on Wednesday that it arrested, building on the reference of the competent public prosecution, four Syrians belonging to the terrorist organization Daesh.
Interrogated, the arrestees admitted having vowed affiliation to Daesh and having tried to recruit relatives of theirs to fight alongside the organization's militants in Syria.
They formed a network operating inside Lebanon in favor of the terrorist organization, seeking to recruit as many as possible young men (Syrians and Lebanese) to form cells affiliated with Daesh.
They began their activities in this context and were able to recruit a number of young people by attracting them under the guise of forming a football team and performing some sports activities. Those activities were interspersed with religious lessons centered on the ideology of the organization that calls for terrorism, as they admitted.
After the completion of the interrogations, the arrestees were referred to the competent judiciary and work is underway to arrest the remaining people involved.
