Dubai: Jordan-based Haider Murad and Sons (HMS), a distributor of consumer electronics and appliances, said on Wednesday that it will distribute products by Italy-based Candy in the UAE.
“We plan to expand in retail and our sales channels [this year],” Ali Murad, general manager at HMS in the UAE, told Gulf News in a phone interview.
The company gained distribution rights for Candy, a home appliances brand, in the UAE in August last year. It has been distributing Candy products in Jordan for 40 years.
The group’s profits touched $3.6 million last year and it is expected to increase by between six and seven per cent this year, according to Ali Murad, general manager at HMS in the UAE. Sales reached $52 million and is forecast to rise by 15 per cent this year, he said.
Candy, which has been in the UAE market for 10 years, was distributed by Eros Group (for four years). With production facilities in Europe, Turkey and the Far East, the company produces washing machines, dishwashers, dryers, fridges and ovens, among others.
With the recovery of the UAE economy, spending on consumer appliances is expected to grow by around eight per cent a year over the next five years, according to a report by global consultancy Euromonitor International.
HMS plans to sign deals this year with retailers that include Hyper Panda, Giant Hypermarket and Union Coop to sell its products. It also plans to launch an online shopping portal called Leaders Emall in June this year.
