Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi, on the third day of his official visit to the French capital, Paris, met with the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, in the presence of the accompanying delegation.
Hidalgo reviewed cooperation between Paris and Beirut municipalities, including the exchange of experience in administrative and organizational matters, stressing the need for "further cooperation with the remaining municipalities in Lebanon on a number of issues dealing with municipal affairs."
Hidalgo also praised "Lebanon's welcoming of displaced Syrians," hailing "its ability to bear this burden, which no other country could bear."
The mayor of Paris suggested holding "a conference that brings together the Lebanese municipalities that have received large numbers of displaced people with a number of French municipalities to be peace messengers and to exchange ideas and experiences on this matter, ideas that may open the door to new solutions to this humanitarian problem."
There was an agreement on the importance of holding such a conference "because it will allow the European people to learn more about the Lebanese experience in terms of Syrian displacement, especially that part of Lebanon's borders are shared with Syria and will inevitably be affected by the war and its consequences at all levels.
