IPL: Ambience is special in UAE, Sunil Gavaskar says

Sharjah: Sunil Gavaskar, the interim President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the duration of the Pepsi Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014, is delighted with the large turnout of fans for the tournament so far.

Gavaskar was felicitated by Ajay Sethi, the Channel 2 Group Chairman and owner of St Lucia Zouks Caribbean Cricket League team, along with his wife Deepna Sethi, on Sunday. Hundreds of cricket enthusiasts and Bollywood stars attended the colourful dinner function in Dubai.

“UAE is a great place and I am a regular visitor to this country, so I am happy to see the IPL come here. Frankly the UAE is a second home for me,” he said while greeting many businessmen, team owners and UAE cricket officials.

“It is good to see many familiar faces and I appreciate that everyone is supporting the event. I am enjoying meeting my commentator friends in a different role,” added Gavaskar, who was with commentators Ravi Shastri, Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja, Alan Wilkinson, Harsha Bhogle, Simon Doull and Laxman Sivaramakrishnan.

“The enthusiasm of the fans here is very special and, with the excellent facilities for the game, the IPL is bound to be a success.

“The ambience is something special in all venues and it has given an opportunity for many nationalities to come and watch the matches. The UAE has risen to the challenge of hosting such a popular event.”
