Irrigation ministry’s vision focuses on improving water-use efficiency

Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sweilam said that his ministry’s vision on improving water-use efficiency, managing water to maximize yields and increasing crop productivity.

 

This came during his meeting with a number of the ministry’s leaders to follow up on progress made so far to implement projects to shift to modern irrigation.

 

The ministry is currently studying the modern irrigation file in Egypt, including the impact on the rate of aquifer recharge, the quantities of agricultural drainage water that enter the water system in other locations, as well as soil salinity, along with setting standards, priorities and areas for action in the coming period.

 

The minister also underlined the importance of continuing to follow up on shifting to modern irrigation in sandy lands and applying fines for violators if they use irrigation by immersing in sandy lands.
